Stage Three

27th March 2022

Start: Lunsar

Midpoint: Port Loko

Finish: Lunsar

Distance: 87km

Elevation: 398m

The final stage of the SiS Tour de Lunsar 2021 is the traditional route used in previous editions of the race. A shorter stage than the other two, stage three will still be the decider of the race and its classifications.

The stage begins with six laps of a 4.2-kilometre loop in Lunsar before heading out to Port Loko via Matakete and Rogbere. The day’s sprint is at Rogbere Junction and the climb is the 2.9-kilometre Bakasoka Hill, a popular climb well used by the riders of the Lunsar Cycling Team.

After the turn at the Port Loko clock tower the riders will then pass back through Rogbere and Matakete before the finish in Lunsar. The riders will be well used to the final 20 kilometres of this stage as it had previously been used on stage one.

This route will also be used as the junior and women’s race route.

Stage Three maps and profiles

Karim Kamara says:

We begin the stage with a six-lap circuit which will go round and round in Lunsar. After that, we head out to Port Loko. In this stage, the sprint will be at Rogbere Junction and the climb will be at Bakasoka hill after the bridge. After the hill we enter Port Loko town and pass the clock tower before we exit and come straight to Lunsar for the finish of the 2021 Tour de Lunsar.

Port Loko

Port Loko is the capital of the North West Province and lies on the freeway connecting Freetown with Guinea’s capital Conakry. The town lies on the Bankasoka River estuary and is one of the most diverse places in Sierra Leone. The area around the town is a major mining and trade centre for bauxite, a rock used in the process of aluminium. Port Loko is home to the Bai Bureh Warrriors football team, one of the country’s oldest clubs and winners of the 1978 and 1982 Sierra Leonean FA Cup.
